How Christianity OBLIGATES believers to forsake rationality, accountability, and compassion.
I'm too compassionate, rational, and accountable
to be a Christian. Consider: No one has ever been un-salvageable, if a salvager had enough knowledge, compassion and power to see the whole problem inside their head ... and then cure it. The only version of Christianity which ADMITS that ... is the rare bird called "Universal Salvationists". Their over-arching theology is illogical. But at least their theology doesn't force them to pretend anyone is ever "so far gone" that not even a "God" could restore them to the point where they'd be fully FIT as citizens for any fine kingdom. It wouldn't even require violating anyone's alleged "Free Will". No one ever "freely chooses" to be lacking (not in any way). Everyone simply thinks, feels, and makes choices per their neurophysiology. * HEAL the pains which overwhelm and suppress their humanity, * fix the errors of perception, * clear up misunderstandings, * restore the parts of the brain which enable rational thought, earnest compassion, and personal accountability... * and then just make sure their needs get met ever-after. You'll never have another serious problem them. TA DA! Now they'd make a great addition to any kingdom. However, all other versions of Christianity have imagined a deity who either lacks compassion or lacks power; and thus sees "no choice" but to throw SOME lives away forever, like trash. And most of THOSE sects draw the line between Salvable vs Not-salvageable ... based on absolutely insane criteria; specifically: "faith" in a story and concepts ... which: don't mak rational sense, don't make moral sense, aren't well-evidenced, and are strongly anti-evidenced. And then they use unfair fantasy narratives to justify it; - unjustly accusing all (or ANY) non-believers (along with not-accurate-enough-believers) of: "rejecting the truth" based on "freely chosen": poor character and bad motives. -- Meanwhile, ACTUAL monsters exist. [Click here, for a very recent example] Most Christians love blaming that on a range of fantasy causes. But that's honestly not helpful. Most Christians also imagine fantasy solutions. Of course, that's really not helpful either. In fact, that makes everything worse. [I'd explain how, but that will be covered in another blog] Granted, some monsters do behave better, if they believe in an ever-watching, ever-judging, super-parent who will richly reward adequate behavior, and grotesquely punish bad behaviors. So there's an up-side to Christianity. But then again, plenty of monsters behave WORSE when they become Christians. Because it's an easily-accessed platform of unearned power, unearned trust, special opportunity to feed covert Narcissism, and grants special access to "sheep" they can exploit. Meanwhile, where is anyone's rumored "God", during all of this? One of the things Christians don't seem to understand is that: RESPONSIBILITY to take moral actions scales UPWARD with power. It doesn't scale downwards with power. The more someone is in a position where they CAN either prevent, interrupt, and/or remedy a tragedy, and exactly WHEN they're able to, ... THAT is WHEN and WHERE their moral duties are. THOSE are the standards of morality, if there are any. THOSE are the moments which define who we are. THOSE are the inexcusable and wholly criminal failings of the character in bible stories that fanbase calls "God". The "God" character in those stories, ... CAN prevent, interrupt, and immediately remedy every tragedy. But instead, he falls silent about most of it, makes crazy excuses for some of it, actually COMMITS, COMMANDS, and SANCTIONS horrible examples of evil, and then just expects his fanbase to IMAGINE even more excuses; that he (or his writers) could not even be bothered to think of for his defense. So then that character's fanbase blames all the suffering in this world on ALL HUMANS; - as if *I* am responsible for the existence and actions of predators. -as if *I* am responsible for the actions of anyone who isn't me. -as if ANY OF US are to be blamed for volcanos, earthquakes, most viruses, harmful bacteria, tornados, droughts, floods, parasites, most birth defects, most of the horrible diseases, or even the alleged "design" of human nature. Meanwhile, Theists imagine that their God" should: * arbitrarily play favorites among humans, * rationalize his own anti-ethical behaviors. and * meet all the diagnostic criteria for the most monstrous Major Personality Disorders known to humans, while * silently watching adults and children being domestically abused, kidnaped, raped, tortured, and killed, * and that we SHOULD call that "perfect". -- It's not ok to speak on behalf of a "God", to blame human's for misuse of "free will", while he violates the entire premise used to excuse his inactions.
[although, it's not ok to EVER speak on behalf of a God; but I covered that in a different blog]
It's not ethical
to suppose and propose
a "God" who says "shouldn't HUMANS be taking care of all that?";
-while alleged-He sits around and watches everything happen,
which he (per the lore):
made possible,
made certain,
knew would happen,
and
takes no responsibility for.
It's simply not good enough
to say "but the lucky people who make it into paradise will feel like this was all worth it ...
for them".
