How Conservative Evangelical Christianity "Helps" people.
@BionicLatino "murder is still wrong" How would you try talking someone out of it, if they don't care that it is, and if it's to their benefit? You know what politicians are capable of. Their believing in God isn't a guaranteed way to stop it, but it's something. At least you can then try to introduce some cognitive dissonance, if their motive is purely personal gain.

My thoughts about it:
@Christmas1914-dg5xc
I understand your point.
As someone once said, "I may not believe in God, but I sure hope my maid does".
I get it.
And by "I get it", I mean ...
I truly and deeply understand it.
The easiest counterpoint would be to offer this:
However, Weinberg really underestimates the problem.
Now, I do understand that some Christians are genuinely loving people.
But that actually makes it worse. Because those people are taught to rob themselves of their credit for being decent people. -Believing that "God" made them ethical, and that they couldn't have accomplished so much without that religion.
This keeps them dependent on crutches they never really needed.
Meanwhile, Conservative, Evangelical religions are prototypes for an Orwellian Big Brother surveillance state, except it's technically a Big Daddy.
- Although "He" is just a hypnotic suggestion planted deep into their psyche.

Whenever that ... *special offer* works on an extra-dangerous mind (ie. Sociopaths, Psychopaths, Clinical Narcissists, etc),
... My question is:
At what cost?
That dangerous person gets detoured away from the private crimes they would have otherwise committed.... to a whole new path. A path of far greater power and unearned trust. A path of special access to women, children, and other extra-vulnerable victims.
So instead of controlling wolves, Christianity creates sheep and then hands them over.
Whereas, whenever that *special offer* works on people who are merely average in how "ethically challenged" they are, ...
The old Sky Cake gambit might help to limit their shenanigans.
It could.
But I ask again.
At what cost?
Consider:
It's not consensual.
It's not ever consensual.
Consent is only true consent ... when it's fully informed consent.
Some wolves secretly realize the whole thing is a grift.
So I think it's fair enough to say those members DO fairly realize what they're part of.
However, many remain clueless.
Among the earnest, neither new recruits nor seasoned apologists
* know enough,
* nor understand enough,
about the contract (aka "covenant") they're signing onto.
They are lied to about what it's going to cost them over a lifetime.
Neither do they realize it's a fraudulent afterlife fire insurance policy.
Nor do they realize it is literally a racketeering scheme.
Nor have most of them read the entire contract before committing to it.
In fact, most will never read the whole thing.
Neither is there just one VERSION
of that thing they call "The Bible".
Neither do they really understand the contents of their contract.
They aren't even told the truth about who wrote it, when, or why it was written.
Meanwhile, many proven-effective means of emotional and cognitive manipulation are systematically employed to bypass whatever megere critical filters might have otherwise been in the way of their indoctrination.
As a result, the duped remain absolutely clueless about how it's an authoritarian PSY-OP grift.
So they won't even realize when it turns them into living weapons;
- social, political, and environmental weapons
(sometimes even literal bioweapons, as seen during the height of COVID),
against everyone around them,
and even against themselves.
Worse yet, many DO realize they're harming others. But Christianity has fully nullified their ability to care.
We see this also in the stochastic terrorism they wage every day, against everyone on the LGBT+ spectrum.
So then, why do they act that way?
And why can't they at least refrain from gaslighting us about it, every time we call it out?
While in religious services, they are being hit with addictive waves of dopamine (drug effects; dishonestly peddled as "the indwelling of the Holy Spirit).
The very same chemicals that are bonding them to their ingroup ... are provoking fear and contempt for everyone else.
That effect is both ENSURED and worsened by a religious narrative which specifically and aggressively "others" everyone outside; which, with dripping disdain, they call "The World", which they are told is out to get them.
Worse yet, they sabotage young people's ability to differentiate between a healthy relationship vs abuse.
-All while pushing young people to get married too young,
and then pushing abused spouses to remain with their abusers.

And why?
For the same reasons that their puppet masters are against abortions.
-And in the case of Catholics, the same reason they're against condoms.
That, in turn, sets them up to be very, very foggy about
essential distinctions between reality and fantasy.

This makes it easier for con artists (both freelance and governmental wolves) to take advantage of them later in life.
-Which is exactly why so many politicians endorse and cooperate with such religions.
The results?
The destruction of entire governmental systems, including educational, health, and economic systems.
How so?
By getting people to vote against their own interests,
as their voter-lemmings empower authoritarians to tear down pillars of life-essential support for the disabled, the elderly, and the working class.
Why?
In the short term, this enables billionaires to game the system to their advantage.

Further down the road, it's helping their masters strive towards an unbreakable Hunger Games Dystopia.
Even further down the road, ...
Their eschatology is literally their endgame.
